You know about Sign Language Interpreting in your country, but are eager to find out about organisation of interpreters and their operating environments across the globe? This course is for you! Learn about minority languages, status and communities of deaf people globally and the international disability rights movement.
Learn to operate as a professional in multilingual and multicultural settings. Participate in international networks, events and debates. Bonus: you will get to use English in communication.
This course is for Sign Language Interpreters and last your interpreter students. Our common language will be (spoken) English, but we encourage the use of any other language during group discussions. Deaf students, please see if you are entitled to interpreting services via Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. We are sorry to inform that we won’t be able to provide interpreting through other means, but you are of course more than welcome to bring your own interpreters.
Prerequisites
Knowledge & good skills on at least one signed language, good skills in English.
Additional information
You will need a reliable internet connection, videoconference application Zoom installed, and preferably Chrome as a browser. A computer is highly recommended, all features might not be accessible by mobile. Use of camera & microphone is required.
