If you want to practise and develope your interpreting skills in international settings, you are in the right place! Get to know and try different technologies and technics for interpreting, especially online. Practise your interpreting skills between English and your national Sign Language, learn to apply your skills in multicultural situations with different people. We will also have a look at International Sign and how we can adapt our signing to be more visual.
This course is for Sign Language Interpreters and final year interpreter students. Our common language will be (spoken) English, but we encourage the use of any other language during group discussions. Deaf students, please see if you are entitled to interpreting services via Kela, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland. We are sorry to inform that we won’t be able to provide interpreting through other means, but you are of course more than welcome to bring your own interpreters.
Knowledge & good skills on at least one signed language, good skills in English, some very basic knowledge on International Sign.
You will need a reliable internet connection, videoconference applications Zoom & Teams installed, mobile access to either WhatsApp or Signal, and preferably Chrome as a browser. A computer is highly recommended, all features might not be accessible by mobile. Use of camera & microphone is required.
