Course content:

  • Labour legislation
  • Employment Contracts Act
  • Co-operation Procedure
  • Collective Agreements and some other common regulatory guidance and its applications in working life
  • Different phases of a working career and the labour legislation affecting each phase
  • The potential of wellbeing, success and productivity based on good co-operative procedures and practices

Taking this course enhances competences in

  • Knowing how to develop participation, equality and atmosphere of trust at workplaces
  • Understanding the system of legislation and agreements regulating the world of work in Finland and how to apply them in practice
  • Working-life practices that enhance the culture of making agreements and compromises as well as enhancing socially, ethically and economically sustainable development

The objectives of this course, Course 1. Employment Relations and Co-operation are the following:

  • The student knows the main legislation and agreements that regulate working life in Finland and knows how to apply them
  • The student knows the main roles, responsibilities and duties of the parties involved in the world of work (the employer and the employee)
  • The student understands the significance of co-operative activities at workplaces

This course belongs to Module 3: Relations in Working Life and Co-operation in Humak University of Applied Science’s Community Educator’s studies. In Module 3. Relations in Working Life and Co-operation the learner familiarises herself or himself with the essential legislation in Finland regulating personnel processes and practices in the world of work. The learner will understand the significance of co-operation as a fundamental part of workplace well-being. On this module, we will deepen our understanding of the significance of the work that workplace developers perform in their workplace communities. The tasks included in this module enhance the skills of a workplace developer and assist in building her or his professional identity.

The contents of Module 3 follow:

Course 1: Employment relations and co-operation (5 ECTS [European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System credits])

Course 2: Occupational safety (5 ECTS) (currently available in Finnish)

Course 3: Occupational health and well-being (5 ECTS) (currently available in Finnish)

Course 4. A workplace community as a workplace well-being developer (5 ECTS) (currently available in Finnish)

During Course 1. Employment relations and co-operation (5 ECTS) occupational health and safety, workplace well-being and entrepreneurship issues are not analysed, although these themes are strongly connected to the life cycle of an employment, too. These topics belong to the contents of the other courses in Module 3.
